I was on the Steve Malzberg Show recently on the WOR Radio network. We discussed the upcoming OBamaCare summit and the return of the already-defeated public option — which eighteen Senators want reinstated in the Health Care bill.

Betsy, why not propose the most extreme of ideas regarding government-provided healthcare?
Where does any government dollar that is spent on any person’s healthcare, come from? From us, the taxpayers. Let’s completely cut out government-funded healthcare. In other words, let’s totally cut the government out of the process of providing healthcare for those who cannot care for themselves, such as children, many of the elderly, the disabled, etc. Let’s cut the government out of providing healthcare for our veterans and active duty military. As crazy as that sounds, I’m saying that all of those people will end up with BETTER healthcare than what they have now through the government, especially the military folks. I’m saying we should trust the American people!
My proposal would be a Constitutional amendment to prohibit ever again, any tax dollars from ever being used for any social program. You’ve got to remember that the government has no money of its own. It’s all taxpayer money. Can you imagine what would happen if the government was prohibited from ever again spending one single taxpayer dollar on social programs? For one thing, healthcare costs would drop. Without government bureaucracy inflating the cost of everything in healthcare, prices would drop. Then, the size of government would shrink to relatively microscopic levels. Government spending would be a fraction of what it was. OUR TAX RATES WOULD FALL TO UNPRECEDENTED LEVELS. But people would say, “What about . . .what about . . . and what about . . .?”
Trust the American people. The American people don’t need to be told how to spend their money. We are giving people. Charities would sprout up to take care of the people who truly deserve our care, and you would see their coffers overflowing. On the other hand, people of sound mind and body who have been leeching off hardworking Americans would either have to start taking care of themselves, or hope the liberals start a charity to take care of them. The great thing about all of this is that for once, We The People would finally have the say on how our money would be spent to help others in our society, instead of it being decided for us, the way it is now.
Why do you think churches and other charities are suffering so much now? The church of big government is trying to take over. People see that government is being called on more and more to take care of this and that, and many are asking themselves, “Why should I keep giving to my church?” We’re turning ourselves into a bunch of uncaring drones by going down this path. It’s time to say no to the Church of Obama’s Big Government and yes to the idea of freedom to help those we believe are most deserving of our help.
